liesl’s gelato dress with drawstring

Hello there, everyone! Hope you had a blast following along with our Gelato sew-along! I know I sure did. Now that it’s all wrapped up, I wanted to share how my project turned out. If you recall, this was what inspired me and the fabrics I went for. I decided on Essex linen/cotton from Robert Kaufman, paired with a metallic linen from Gray Line Linen in New York for the trim. ![Liesl's Gelato Dress inspiration](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/56fb53f34b1ded3c5e74616d395254d5.jpg) And here’s the final result! ![Liesl's drawstring Gelato Dress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/487539edff14a951038b9b5f43f06b1c.jpg) I’m super happy with how it came out. Here’s the back view. ![Back of Liesl's drawstring Gelato Dress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/69168d17345de67f7f9e2c36b5bd537f.jpg) And another angle. ![Another angle of Liesl's drawstring Gelato Dress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/7d4ecc414282b59f0f10c4bc8e0762c6.jpg) In the end, I decided not to lengthen the dress. The drawstring already shortens it a bit, and for this silhouette, it feels just right for my personal taste. (The dress in my inspiration photo was a little too long for my liking.) I also skipped the double-welt pockets for simplicity’s sake. If I were to include them, I’d probably lower them by a couple of inches to avoid any interference with the drawstring casing. To align the bottom edge of the drawstring casing, I used the blouse cutting line. If you're short-waisted—or maybe even normal-waisted—I'd recommend raising it by an inch or so. I added the metallic linen to the bottom edge of the sleeves after hemming them. This way, I made sure the selvedge of the fabric covered the hem. I absolutely love the effect, especially how it coordinates with the drawstring itself. Too bad you can't really tell it's metallic in these pictures! ![Metallic detail on the sleeves](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/bff2b483a5f37d998041db4a0ec79fb5.jpg) ![Another view of the metallic detail](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/d2de32f8d86660fc108e0d9783d0c624.jpg) This dress is so easy and comfy to wear. I’m planning to bring it along when we head back to New York in a couple of weeks—it’s polished enough for the city but still light and breezy for those notoriously hot, humid NYC summer days. If you give this pattern a shot, I’d love to see how it turns out! And if you joined the sew-along, we’d all love to see how your dress or blouse looks. Don’t forget to tag us using #lieslandco and #gelatoblousedress so we can check it out. If you haven’t tried the pattern yet, you can grab your own copy of the paper version of the Gelato Blouse + Dress right here. The pattern is also available in extended sizes 0-20 and 16-30 in digital format. Well, that’s all for now! Happy sewing, and let me know if you have any questions or thoughts about the project. Until next time!
