In the first half of the year, Macao’s exports of textiles and garments fell 22.1%

Statistics from the Statistics and Census Service of Macao show that the total value of goods exported in June 2012 was 650 million yuan (Macao dollar, the same below), up by 4.5% over the same period of the previous year, of which re-exports (450 million yuan) rose by 12.1%, while local Product exports (2.0 billion yuan) fell by 9.5%; the total value of goods imported was 5.96 billion yuan, up 19.7% over the same period of last year. The trade deficit of goods in June 2012 was 5.31 billion yuan.

In the first half of 2012, the value of non-textile exports (33.9 billion yuan) rose by 26.1% over the same period of 2011, of which equipment and parts (660 million yuan) and tobacco and alcohol (4.0 billion yuan) increased by 124.8% and 25.6% respectively;

The value of exports of textiles and clothing (5.5 billion yuan) fell by 22.1%.

In terms of local product exports, tobacco and alcohol (270 million yuan) increased by 33.1% over the same period of 2011, while knitted garments (190 million yuan) fell by 21.1%.

In the first half of 2012, the value of imports from mainland China (11.04 billion yuan) and the European Union (8.22 billion yuan) increased by 28.0% and 21.5% respectively from the same period of 2011.

Imported consumer goods (21.5 billion yuan) rose by 27.8%, among which gold-based jewellery (3.75 billion yuan), watches (2.56 billion yuan), and passenger cars and motorcycles (1.59 billion yuan) rose by 43.4%, 54.7% and 60.0% respectively; In addition, imports of capital goods (RMB 6.32 billion) rose by 27.9% year-on-year.

In the first half of 2012, the total volume of external merchandise trade reached 38.73 billion yuan, an increase of 24.4% from 31.14 billion yuan in the same period of 2011.
