2: Detection principle

The test sample and the control terry fabric (towel fabric without antibacterial finishing) were placed in an Erlenmeyer flask and inoculated with the test bacteria. After inoculation, the bacteria on the control towel fabric were immediately washed and the number of bacteria was determined. After the sample was cultured at a constant temperature, the bacteria were washed and the number of bacteria was measured. The percentage reduction in bacteria of the sample was then calculated.

3: Test materials

(1) Test bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae.

(2) Safety measures: All the bacteria used to infect and cause disease in this test must take all necessary precautions to avoid harm to people and the surrounding environment.

The test methods for antibacterial finishing of fabrics are divided into two categories: quantitative test methods and qualitative test methods.

First, the qualitative test method of towel products

Qualitative testing methods include two procedures for inoculating test bacteria on towel fabrics and observing microbial growth on towel fabrics with eyes. It is based on the activity of the antibacterial agent that leaves the fiber into the medium, and is generally suitable for dissolution-type antibacterial hygiene, but is not suitable for washing and antibacterial hygiene. The advantage is low cost and high speed; the disadvantage is that the antibacterial activity cannot be quantitatively tested, and the result is not accurate.

(1) Agar plate method: Also known as the halo test method, a sterilized test sample (2 cm in diameter) is attached to a sterile agar medium, and then a specific test strain (S. aureus) has been used. The agar culture medium inoculated with K. pneumoniae was uniformly poured on the surface of the sample of the culture dish, and after solidification, it was cultured at 37 degrees for 48 hours to observe the growth of the bacteria. The size of the cleansing zone (suppressor zone) near the sample non-growing bacteria indicates the antibacterial activity of the sample. The same procedure was used for the anti-mildew test, except that it was cultured at twenty-nine degrees for 96 hours, and then the mold-proof ability was observed. This method is suitable for dissolution-type antibacterial finishing, and the dissolution-type antibacterial agent must not react with the medium.

(2) Parallel inoculation method: A test sample of 30 mm by 50 mm is cut into five vertical bars in the longitudinal direction, and the width thereof is decreased from 8 mm to 4 mm. Then, using the culture solution of the bacteria to take the bacteria, five parallel lines of 7.5 cm length were drawn on the medium at intervals of 1 cm. The test cloth sample was attached to the surface of the agar, and it was cross-shaped with parallel lines. It was cultured at 37 degrees for 18-24 hours, and the area where the bacterial reproduction was interrupted along the line was observed. Second, towel product quantitative test method

The procedure for the quantitative test method of the towel product is: disinfection of the towel fabric - inoculation test bacteria - bacteria culture - counting the residual colonies. It is suitable for antibacterial performance test of non-dissolving antibacterial finishing towel fabric, and is not suitable for dissolution type antibacterial finishing towel fabric. The advantages are quantitative, accurate and objective. The disadvantages are long time and high cost. At present, the main methods of quantitative testing are China's textile industry standard FZ/T01021-1992 "Test method for antibacterial properties of towel fabrics", Quinn experimental method and AATCC100-1993 "Assessment of antibacterial finishing agents for towel textile materials".

The Quinn test method is to inoculate the finished and unfinished samples with one or several specific test bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae), dry them at a relative humidity, and then place them. On a sterile nutrient agar plate, cover the swatch with a thin layer of agar, incubate at 37 °C for a certain period of time, and then count the number of colonies on the swatch under a low magnification microscope.
